Though the Kansas Jayhawks didn’t claim back-to-back Big 12 Tournament titles, they may get coach Bill Self back soon.
Following Saturday’s 76-56 loss to Texas in the Big 12 tourney title game Saturday at T-Mobile Center, assistant coach Norm Roberts said Self could be back on the sidelines next week for the NCAA Tournament.
“He’s doing well, and we plan on him coaching next week,” Roberts said. “He’s doing well.”
The Jayhawks have played seven games without Self this season, going 6-1 with Roberts filling in. Self, 60, missed the Big 12 tournament as he was hospitalized Wednesday night with an illness.
On Friday, Self was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Coach of the Year award after leading the Jayhawks to their 17th conference title in his 20 years as coach.
