The Kansas City Chiefs on Friday named offensive lineman Joe Thuney the team’s most valuable player.
Thuney, an All-Pro guard who finished the season at left tackle, becomes the first offensive lineman to win the Derrick Thomas Most Valuable Player Award. The team’s MVP is voted on by Chiefs players and coaches. Thuney started all 17 games and made the switch from guard to tackle in Week 15 and remained there through the team’s run to the Super Bowl.
The team’s Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year Award went to wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Selected in the first round out of Texas, Worthy caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 20 carries for 104 yards and three rushing touchdowns during the regular season.
In the playoffs, Worthy caught 19 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. His best performance came against the Eagles in the Super Bowl when he caught eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
Worthy becomes the second wide receiver in a row to win the team’s Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year Award, as Rashee Rice won the award last season. Rice, however, missed most of the 2024 season with a torn ACL.
