KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday that he will be back next year on one condition.
“I think I’m coming back, right?” Reid said. “If they’ll have me back, I’ll come back. You never know in this business. That’s a tough one, but I plan on it.”
At age 67, Reid has answered the question of whether he’ll retire or return to the sidelines each of the last few years. And with three Super Bowl wins one might think it would be a bit easier to walk away, especially when this season has not gone the way Reid or the Chiefs wanted.
At 6-10, the Chiefs will close out the season Sunday in Las Vegas, missing out on the playoffs for just the second time in Reid’s tenure with the Chiefs. Reid signed a five-year contract extension in April 2024, though, and has led the Chiefs to five Super Bowl appearances, nine straight AFC West titles and seven straight AFC championship games.
