KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs have another Super Bowl MVP for their offense.
The Chiefs on Thursday officially signed veteran running back Kenneth Walker III, who ran for 135 yards on 27 carries last month for the Seahawks in their 29-13 Super Bowl win against the Patriots. Walker also caught two passes for 26 yards and was named Super Bowl MVP. He now joins three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid.
“It’s a winning culture,” Walker said of the Chiefs. “Watching over the years they’ve been to plenty of Super Bowls, and they know how to win. So I feel like it’s a great fit for me.”
Needing to upgrade the running back position, the Chiefs signed Walker to a three-year, $45 million contract with $28 million guaranteed. Walker, 25, rushed for 1,027 yards last season to go with five touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 282 yards.
The 5-foot-9, 211-pound back was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round in 2022 and rushed for 3,555 yards in four seasons, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie and again last season.
The Chiefs haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Kareem Hunt was a rookie in 2017. But they’re hoping to change that with the addition of Walker.
“It means a lot,” Walker said. “You feel appreciated and wanted. That’s what everybody wants. I’m just happy to get in here and get to know the guys and work.”
